This is just a quick tutorial on uploading your site to the popular GoDaddy web hosting service. This is assuming you already have your website files saved locally, and you have a hosting account and domain name set up with GoDaddy. This tutorial is for the folks that need to get their site up live!

Step 1:

When you first log in you will be directed to this product page.

Product Page

Once you are here, you want to scroll down to the section that says “Web Hosting” and click on the “Manage” button on the right.

Step 2:

The manage button will lead you to your dashboard on GoDaddy. Once you are here, click on the cPanel button.

Step 3:

Now, you should be on the cPanel screen. The cPanel provides you, the user, with a simplified way of managing your website. Once here, you want to click on the File Manager button.

Step 4:

The File Manager is a tool within cPanel that makes it easier for users to manage the files for their websites; when you are here, double click on where it says www.

Step 5:

This will be where you upload your website files. This will be the root folder of your website. This is where your local files go. You can delete everything here except for the 404.shtml file. The 404.shtml file is just a redirect file in case a visitor types in the wrong URL. It will direct them to a 404 page.

You may also delete the CGI-folder. The CGI-folder is simply for special scripts that your website uses. You can always recreate it later on if your developer needs to implement some of those scripts.

Step 6:

Before you start uploading files, recreate any folders you have in your local folder in your www folder. For example, if you have a CSS folder locally, you must create a CSS folder in your website's root folder. You want to recreate your local file/folder structure in the www folder.

Final Step:

Once you recreate the folder structure, you can go into each folder and upload any files in that folder, including the root folder.

Again, we want to recreate your local file/folder structure in the www folder in the File Manager. The upload screen allows you to drag and drop multiple files or select files with the click of a button.

Once you are done uploading your files your site should be live.

Congratulations, your website should be up and running!
